DESCRIPTION:

Muir Woods Visitor Center is located in Muir Woods National Monument which is part of California’s Golden Gate National Recreation Area. This recreation area is north of San Francisco. It is known for its towering old redwood trees. Muir Woods has a rich and varied history over years.

Our project was to reroof the visitor center. We removed and replaced the existing wood shakes with new Davinci Roof Scapes’s Bellaforte shakes. Additionally, we replaced any damaged plywood decking. Roof flashing, drip edge, pipe vent collars, gutters, and downspouts were replaced with new.

There were unique challenges on this project. Firstly, the visitor center was to remain open during construction. This required us to accommodate/work around the hikers and visitors so they were not impacted. Secondly, this project was completed during the rainy season from late December which is the parks “off-season” and work had to be 100% complete prior to the spotted owl nesting period of February 1st.

All the work was completed without any accidents.
